Our Yoga Instructors:

Elizabeth Capper, Yoga Teacher, RYT 200, Massage Therapistimg_2084

Liz completed her massage training with the Green Mountain Institute for Integrative Therapy in Southern Portugal in 2007. After 6 years living and working as a chef/massage therapist between Portugal and Alaska, she decided, with her husband Paul and 2 mischievous mutts, to put down some roots, and Idaho was the place!

Realizing her long time goal, in 2013 she attended Frog Lotus Yoga International in Andalusia, Spain to become a Yoga Alliance Certified Vinyasa/Hatha Yoga Teacher.

The next step was only natural: to create a peaceful, welcoming space in the local community to share the healing gifts of yoga and massage. Liz hopes that Body Calm can give people a little sanctuary to quiet their minds, be in tune with their bodies and leave the studio feeling amazing.

Liz is currently finishing her RYT 500 certification with Frog Lotus Yoga International.

Paul Capper, Yoga Teacher, RYT 200IMG_1879 (2)

Paul grew up in Staffordshire, England, then spent 10 years living in Portugal before moving to Idaho in 2011. He began his yoga practice in 2013 when he and his partner, Elizabeth opened Body Calm. Paul went into his very first yoga class without expectations and came out an hour later with the lofty goal to go at least 2 times a week and to eventually touch his toes in a forward fold. Sticking to his goal, Paul quickly found the benefits of a regular practice: improved posture, increased flexibility, generally feeling awesome! Wanting to explore the practice further, he attended more classes and workshops and then enrolled in the Hot Warrior Yoga Teacher Training to earn his 200 hour certification in 2016.

Paul enjoys teaching an active Vinyasa/Hatha blend class to all levels of students and looks forward to seeing you on the mat!

Laurie McElroy, Yoga Teacher ERYT 500FINAL-Brenda-Jane-Photo-Boise-Photographer-005

Laurie has been teaching yoga since 2010, when she completed her 200 hour RYT through Shanti Yoga School of McCall. She completed her 500 hour certification in 2013. Her students keep her inspired and sublimely alive.

“I believe each person has a unique way of expressing their inner-most self through yoga. I      encourage my students to find their own yoga connections through asana, breath and self-        awareness.” A favorite quote is, “What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

Kathy Opp, RYT 500 unnamed

Kathy is a graduate of the Shanti Yoga School in McCall, Idaho and a certified yoga instructor trained in a multidiscipline Hatha yoga tradition.  She studied yoga in her youth and came back to a practice in 2011 to deal with grief and to regain work-life balance.  While working as an independent business consultant and developing her own yoga teaching style, Kathy learned people need to offset their typically high intensity, go-go lifestyles with more gentle styles of yoga.

In 2013 and 2014 she deepened her training by attending the Nosara Yoga Institute in Costa Rica and attained a Yin Yoga level I & II certification.  The practice of yin is a quiet practice focused on longer held seated or reclined postures designed to maintain or restore lower body joint and spinal mobility.  Kathy is passionate about sharing the benefits of a yin practice with as many people as possible.  It is by calming the breath that we are able to bring stillness to the body and the mind.

Amber Hartley RYT 200 image.do

“Yoga is not about self-improvement, it’s about self-acceptance.” – Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa

Yoga has been a part of my life since 1998. In 2012, my practice in yoga grew to influence all aspects of my life.  I completed my RYT 200 certification at I Am Yoga Wellness Studio in California.  My class is Hatha based. I combine meditation, deep breathing, and stretch to leave you standing taller, squatting deeper, and feeling balanced.

I believe yoga is for everyone, all ages and all shapes and sizes. My specialty is teaching the basics but I instruct to meet the needs of all levels. I consider myself a student as well.  I learn and grow with each class I instruct.  My personal yoga practice is a continuous evolution. I have my good days and my not so balanced days.  Yoga has taught me to “go with the flow.”  When my body is ready for the next level the next level will come.  Until then I will wobble when I balance (especially on my hands or head).

I look forward to meeting all those who know and love yoga. And I especially look forward to passing on my love and knowledge of yoga to those who have yet to catch the “yoga bug!”

She is a Universalist, recognizing all traditions and drawing elements and essence from all traditions.  Through the weaving together of many different yoga philosophies and stories during Mary’s classes we are able to explore our own uniqueness, creating clarity and tranquility in our minds.  Being alive and aware in the present moment gives us the gift of wonder, amazement, and the ability to rest in consciousness.  Besides sharing the ancient wisdom through Hatha and Kundalini yoga classes Mary brings the joy of Naad Yoga to Kirtan activities with other like-minded musicians.

Lisa Simpson, Yoga Teacher, RYT 50010665757_10204570512373403_6066841267930667181_n

Hi, I’m Lisa and have a passion for guiding people in Yoga.  I started Yoga when I was pregnant with my first baby 18 years ago and I remember thinking – “I don’t understand what these verbal cues are but i’m sweating like heck!”  Trembling through the poses, I knew this was going to be good for me, even though I felt so weak.  My journey with yoga has taught me many things about how I face challenges in life and how that when I feel good physically, I am a better mom, daughter and friend.  I have since taught numerous group exercise classes and have become a Certified Personal Trainer.  Currently, I am working toward the 500hr Teacher Training with the Shanti Yoga School where I received my 200hour.  I LOVE being a life long learner! My other interests are my kids, dog, and everything outside from skiing to backpacking to paddle boarding!  Come and enjoy class!

Christine Debourse, RYT 500

After relocating to Boise from Switzerland, I went to my first yoga class in 2005 by curiosity: what is so special about yoga? And I was instantly hooked!christine-boi-photoI loved how the awareness of my body was giving a break to my brain. A moving meditation!

Now, I am a RYT 500 and still an eternal student. There is so much to learn! I really enjoy helping people discover what yoga can be to them, by showing them the beauty of the breath connecting with the body and mind.

I try to bring different perspectives to my teaching to keep our curiosity, and discovery intact!

Sarah is excited to share yoga with your children and teens! She believes learning to breathe and practicing mindfulness at a young age can help provide balance in kids’ busy lives. Linda Gilbertson, E-RYT 500

She discovered her passion for Yoga after having had a long career in the fitness industry, working as a personal trainer and fitness instructor in the Las Vegas area.  She caught the “spark of Yoga” in 1998 and has been fanning the flame ever since. She studied in the Las Vegas area for over 8 years, where she eventually opened a studio. She returned to her roots in Idaho in 2007 where she has continued to teach in various studios throughout the Treasure Valley. She realized a dream to travel to India in 2013, where she lived in a yoga ashram for a month, studying traditional Hatha Yoga.  She recently completed her 500 hour teaching certification. She continues to study with local teachers, one of her favorites being Jeanne Dillion. “Helping people find the deep inner stillness that resides inside each and every one of us, is truly an honor for which I am grateful. Yoga is transformation one breath at a time.”

Debi Halcomb 200 RYT
Even at a young age, Debi had always had a love for both children and Senior Adults. Being a Mother of three and Grandmother of eight brings joy to her live. Debi married her childhood sweetheart 40 years ago. She volunteered with Senior Solutions as well as CASA as a Guardian ad Litem advocating for children in foster care. A fall in 2012 that resulted in an injury to her leg started her on a path looking for a class that would both strengthen her leg and improve balance. Yoga brought strength and balances to her life not just her leg: it was not long until yoga became Debi’s passion. Winter 2015 she attended Halo/HMY teacher training completing her 200 hour certification with Yoga Alliance. Yoga has made such a positive impact on her life she is so excited to guide and support you on your yoga journey.

Shannon Lind, RYT 200
Shannon has been doing yoga her entire life.  She got serious about it several years ago while rehabilitating a shoulder injury.  “The benefits of yoga and the gentle, strength-building movements helped me more than I thought they would.”  Learning this, Shannon felt the draw to further her yoga education.

She is a graduate from Shanti Yoga School in McCall, and she earned her RYT200 certification in 2014.  She finds strength in sharing her student’s energy, “every class is a different joy, and I take something with me every time I teach.”  She has found strength and stillness in yoga that are so often missing, but are so very necessary in our lives.  Because of this, Shannon loves to teach yin, restorative, slow flow, meditation — any class to allow students time to find their peace.

Niki Dean, Children’s Specialized Yoga Teacher

Niki was born and raised in Idaho and has a love for yoga and the many benefits it offers to one’s mind and body. As a mom of two boys, she found herself in search of a workout that fostered a sense of community and offered a space to not only strengthen her body, but also her mind…that’s where yoga came in. Over the course of 6 years, her own yoga practice has taught her the importance of breath awareness, mindfulness and acceptance. Knowing the importance yoga has played in her life, she began taking her boys to local kid’s yoga classes. After seeing the fun they were having, while learning valuable life skills, she decided she wanted to teach kids yoga too! So, she enrolled in and completed her Children’s Specialized Yoga Certification with Shanti Yoga School of McCall/Boise.
Niki is excited to share her love of yoga with your kids!

Valeri Pighini, Yoga Teacher RYT 200

Valeri began practicing yoga in 1996, and after 17 years decided to deepen her practice with a 200-hour yoga teacher training program in Northern California. One year later she added another 200-hour yoga teacher training with Noell Clark at Downtown Yoga Shala and decided that teaching was her passion. Currently she’s attending Shanti’s 300-hour Yoga Teacher Training. As a life-long fitness enthusiast Valeri has a strong background in ballet and ballroom dance. She acquired a certificate with the International Dance Exercise Association (IDEA) in 1996. A deep interest of anatomy and physiology took place during that time, so her practice, both personal and as an instructor, stem from that knowledge. First and foremost she instructs with safety and comfort for her students. Valeri brings humor to her Vinyasa Flow practice, always mindful to ensure stability over flexibility.  You should not be surprised to hear her describe a pose as “delicious.” Valeri’s classes move slowly, deliberately, mindfully and with purpose.

Josie Kunzman, Yoga Teacher RYT 200

Josie’s regular practice began in 2011 following a dance injury and was primarily focused on the physical benefits of yoga. In 2015 her regular practice became daily and her focus shifted from the physical to the mental. All experience is filtered through the mind, so learning to start from the mind changes all experience. Josie is a 200 hour registered yoga teacher with Yoga Alliance and is pursuing her 300 hour certification through Svadhayaya Yoga Training under the direction of Mark Zimmerer.

Josie loves teaching yoga and there is nothing she would rather do. Yoga teaches us to live in the moment. The present moment experience is the only place where we are able to experience true joy. Helping others in learning to connect with themselves in order to become more open, strong, and present is the most rewarding work she has ever done.

Yoga has helped Josie discover her true nature. She is honored to share the gift of yoga with others.

Angelique De Nofa,  ERYT 500+

Although she received her formal training in the ISHTA lineage from Yogiraj Alan Finger at Yoga Zone NYC (1994), Angelique’s first exposure to yoga and meditation was her induction into TM at age 12. Stillness was not easy for her back then; however, she grew into finding her center. Her career expands over 35 years teaching and presenting in a variety of settings including studios, hospitals, schools, fitness clubs, local TV, and private groups. Angelique is a classically trained dancer who learned to make adjustments after injury and illness – in fact, injury and illness led her back to finding my center! She has studied at Kripalu (MA), Open Center (NY) and Yoga Works (CA); and has additional certifications in Pilates and Thai Yoga. Ever grateful to those teachers who have inspired her: Linda Gold, Margaret Graham Hills, Doug Caldwell, Francois Raoult, Donna Farhi, Michele Elliman, and Duncan Wong. Shouldn’t we all be grateful to those who inspire us?
